RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

MORNING OF THE SHOOT

All participants will need to bring a printout of the confirmation e-mail that was sent to the adult

involved and present it at the registration table to pick up their match materials and be assigned to

a squad (group).

Participants will listen for their squad announcement and meet up with a Range Safety Officer,

who will manage participants into and out of the shooting area. Range Safety Officers will assign

participants to shooting lanes and assist with any issues that come up before and during the actual

shooting portion, such as misfires, etc. Range Safety Officers will not provide coaching.

 

GENERAL RULES

No outside firearms and ammunition are allowed to be brought onto the range. All needed

firearms and ammunition will be provided by the park.

All youth MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while at the shoot. This

includes non-participants.

All shooters MUST have ear and eye protection. All accompanying adults and spectators MUST have

ear protection. This includes non-competing children.

All commands given by a Range Safety Officer must be followed immediately; this is for your

safety.

Shooters cannot use sandbags, bipods, or any other devices to aid their shooting.

Spectators will be required to stay outside the shooting sheds (except parent or guardian) and

follow all directions as issued, plus applicable range rules.

 

DIVISIONS

DIV. 1: Ages 7 to 10 years old (shooting at 25 yards)

DIV. 2: Ages 11 to 13 years old (shooting at 50 yards)

DIV. 3: Ages 14 to 17 years old (shooting at 50 yards)

 

COURSE OF FIRE FOR THE MATCH

1. Once shooting lanes are assigned, the participant will be given the firearm in safe condition and

two magazines — a 5 rounder for the practice stage, and a 10 rounder for the actual competition.

2. The Range Safety Officer will issue the commands “load up,” “shooters ready,” and then

“commence firing,” whereupon participants can shoot for practice.

In the practice stage, participants will be allowed to shoot five rounds on a separate practice

target for a predetermined amount of time of the Range Safety Officer‘s choosing. At this time,

adult supervisors of the shooters may give verbal advice to them.

3. Once the Range Safety Officer has issued the command “cease fire,” the practice stage has

finished. Participants will “unload and show clear,” and exchange their empty magazines for

match magazines that are pre-loaded with 10 rounds. Range Safety Officers will check each

firearm is cleared.

4. Range Safety Officers will declare the range “cold”, and at that time participants can safely

walk onto the range to inspect and recover their practice targets, accompanied by a Range Safety

Officer.

5. Once participants are back and situated in their shooting lanes, the command will be given to

“load up,” “shooters ready,” and then “commence firing.” Shooters will be given 10 minutes to

shoot a 10 round group at 50 yards (25 yards for 7-10 year old class) on an NRA official small-bore

rimfire target under match conditions for highest score. At this time, adults WILL NOT be

allowed to give advice to the shooters. In the event a shooter has a misfire or dud round they

need to bring it to the Range Safety Officer's attention, where they will receive assistance, extra

ammo, and possible time allowances (in qualifying instances, not all).

6. Once 10 minutes has transpired, all shooters will be given the command “cease fire,” the

competition stage has finished. Participants will “unload and show clear,” and render their

firearms safe with their magazines detached. Range Safety Officers will check that each firearm is

cleared.

7. Safety Officers will again declare the range “cold”, and at that time participants can safely

walk onto range accompanied by a Range Safety Officer to retrieve their targets and submit

them for official scoring.

 

SCORING

Targets will be scored in each division based on the following criteria:

High Score — total points of all ring values on the target

Tiebreaker — span of overall group (tightness) as measured by a micrometer

The division winners will participate in a “shoot off” for the Grand Prize winner; conditions of the

shoot off will be determined at the time of the contest by the Range Officers. It will be

challenging.
